2100 of you braved the chilly morning air and came out to run the 10th Annual Oklahoma City Turkey Trot! Not only did you earn some extra calories you can cash in at dinner, but you also raised money and awareness for Eagle Ridge Institute. Thank you so much for joining us!

You can find RESULTS HERE.

Please accept our sincere apology if you tried to park in the Cox Convention Center garage and found they were charging for parking. We spoke with the Cox Center early in the week and were told the gates would be open and they would not be charging on the holiday. Apparently COPTA changed their mind and when we contacted them race morning when we saw them charging for parking they were unwilling to honor what they had told us earlier. We are sorry that we gave you incorrect information and hope that it did not dampen your holiday spirit or your enjoyment of the race overall.

The parking garage under the Cox Convention Center will be open and free on Thanksgiving morning for Turkey Trot participants. We recommend you park there. Metered parking spaces on the streets downtown are free on holidays, so you can find a spot the is NOT on the race course and park there also.

I was sitting in my OKC office the day before Thanksgiving last year (2008) when I received an email from a friend asking if I was going to run the Turkey Trot at Lake Hefner. I replied that I didn’t know for sure. I work with many other large events/races around the country. I rarely run in local events because I am usually somewhere else on any given weekend. However, I had a strange sensation about this particular race, not quite an epiphany, but a mild nudge to do something to help out in some way. One of my dearest friends, Gilbert Tuhabonye, told me during one of our runs together, “You need to listen to the voice in your heart.” This time I did, and after some quick research, I called Dorothy Herring, the race director, at Eagle Ridge Institute.

Eagle Ridge Institute has partnered with Taylor Group Event Management to produce the Annual Oklahoma City Turkey Trot. Taylor Group’s Jeff Kidder (President) and Thomas Hill (CEO) met the week after this year’s race and signed an agreement with ERI to manage the event.

The Annual OKC Turkey Trot has been a major fund raiser for ERI over the last 9 years. Under the agreement with Taylor Group the race will continue to raise money for ERI. “The OKC Turkey Trot has the potential to be a significant fund raising event,” said Jeff Kidder, “and it can also be a way for many more people in Oklahoma City to learn about this great organization and remain involved long after the race is over.”

In 2008 the race drew over 1000 participants and the event has grown each year from the couple hundred that showed up the first year the race was held. “Dorothy Herring has done a fantastic job as race director for all these years.” said John Mayfield, President of ERI, “partnering with the Taylor Group will allow the race to move up to the next level, and free us to do more of what we are here to do.”
