The OKC Turkey Trot began 9 years ago 1999. Eagle Ridge Institute’s Executive Director John Mayfield and Dorothy Herring decided that OKC needed a Thanksgiving Day run like so many cities around the country. For the past 9 years, the Trot has been held out at beautiful Lake Hefner in North Oklahoma City. The Hefner Lake Trails capacity would be far exceeded with the large numbers that will attend in 2009 and beyond – so the decision was made to move the event to the downtown area. This makes in easier for people all around the OKC metro area to have easy access to the event and parking as well as a much better venue for spectators.
